A community resource and job fair focusing on supervisorial District 11 and featuring a special green construction job workshop will be open to the public on Saturday, Dec. 2, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
“Our construction training academy, CityBuild, will also be on hand to provide information as we are actively recruiting people who want enroll and participate in the next training,” Office of Economic and Workforce Development spokesperson Gloria Chan stated.
A new City Build Academy will begin Jan. 15, 2018, with recruiting efforts focused on District 11 applicants.
Because of all of the building projects in the pipeline, there are more construction jobs coming online. The workshop aims to assist residents who face language and education barriers to entering the workforce.
“CityBuild is working with Supervisor [Ahsha] Safai, the District 11 Workforce Collaborative, and more specifically Inner City Youth and OMI/E Beacon to recruit folks to participate in their free CityBuild pre-apprenticeship training program,” said Safai’s legislative aide Cathy Mulkey-Meyer.
ICY is partnered with CityBuild and will hold similar events in the future.
“This event is the beginning of targeted workforce outreach specific to the OMI and District 11,” stated Inner City Youth Executive Director Gwen Brown. “We hope these outreach efforts reach folks in the neighborhood who are looking to join the Bay Area’s historic construction boom. This training, although extensive and unpaid, can lead to employment and lifelong careers that offer folks a living wage and a way to support their families.”
