December Events at Ocean View Library

Hello library patrons,

We are offering a wide range of programs and events at the Ocean View Branch Library in December.

Please note: All programs at the library are free. The library will be closed on Monday, Dec. 25.

The Ocean View Brach Library is located at 345 Randolph St.

Adult Programs

Knitting Circle – Tuesday, December 5 & 194:30 pm to 5:30 pm

Join our Knitting Circle in the Ocean View Branch Library for knitting, conversation and inspiration. Knitters of every skill level are invited.  Beginners are especially welcome.

Movie Screening: The Beguiled – Tuesday, December 12, 12 pm to 2:30 pm

The Ocean View Branch Library invites you to watch the second movie adaptation of Thomas Cullinan’s novel.  Sophia Coppola won the Best Director Award at the Cannes Film Festival 2017 for this production. During the Civil War, a wounded corporal seeks refuge at a girls boarding school in Virginia. The unexpected arrival of a man leads to jealousy and betrayal among the female characters who try to win his affections during his recovery from injuries. Starring: Colin Farrell, Nicole Kidman, Kirsten Dunst, Elle Fanning and Emma Howard.  Rated R.  94 mins.  Refreshment provided.

Making Holiday Necklace with Esther Kwan – Wednesday, December 13, 4 pm to 5 pm

The Ocean View Branch Library invites you to join us in making great gifts for the holidays. Step by step, our renowned craft instructor Esther Kwan will show you how to make festive and fancy necklaces with sewn cloth and beads. Washi Tape Christmas Card- Thursday, December 21, 4 pm to 5:30 pm

Please come to the Ocean View Branch Library to learn to make Christmas cards with pretty Washi Tapes.  You do the designer’s job; we provide the materials.  Let’s have some fun!

Teen Programs

T(w)een Winter Read 2017 Friday, December 22, 4 pm to 4:30 pm

Teens and tweens are encouraged to pick up a reading log at a participating library location and fill out one log per 5 hours read. They will drop it off at the library location. Their reading log is their entry into the raffle and the more they read, the more chances they have to win.

Wednesday Flick: Transformers – The Last Knight – Wednesday, December 27, 12:30 pm to 3 pm

Come and join us for a Wednesday afternoon flick of Transformers: The Last Knight with popcorn and snacks provided!

Transformers: The Last Knight is about Autobots and Decepticons are at war, with humans on the sidelines. Optimus Prime is gone. The key to saving our future lies buried in the secrets of the past, in the hidden history of Transformers on Earth.

Don’t have a place to study after school? Well, come on down to the Ocean View Branch to do Homework or just have a quiet place to study!

Children’s Programs

Teotihuacan Family Art with the de Young Museum – Saturday, December 2, 2 pm to 3:30 pm

Teens from the Museum Ambassador Program will lead an interactive art activity inspired by the Teotihuacan: City of Water, City of Fire exhibition at the de Young Museum. For children ages 6-12. Space is limited. Please call the Ocean View Help Desk at 415-355-5615 to sign up.

Create Paper Garlands! – Saturday, December 9, 12 pm to 1 pm

Make a decorative holiday garland to trim your tree, or to simply brighten up your environment!  Appropriate for all ages. Supplies will be provided.

KODO Kids – Objects in Motion – Saturday, December 16, 12 pm to 1:30 pm

Objects in motion are always intriguing to young children!  With our KODO materials, they will discover force, momentum, gravity, and speed.  Parents will have as much fun as their children playing with these toys!

Little Creations Craft Time – Tuesday, December 19, 11:30 am to 12 pm

Come for Storytime and stay with your little one to make Toddler-friendly crafts and creations immediately after Storytime at Minnie & Lovie Recreation Center at 650 Capitol Ave. Hope to see you and your little one there!  (Note: This event will be taking place at a location outside the San Francisco network of public libraries. Family Games Café – Saturday, December 30, 2:30 pm to 4:30 pm

Take some time out from the holidays to relax and de-stress!  Join us for a variety of board games that will appeal to the entire family.  You’ll see some old favorites and some new soon-to-be-favorites, like the fantastic Giant Word Winder!  Light refreshments served at the Family Games Cafe.

Toddler Tales at Minnie & Lovie Ward Recreation Center – Every Tuesday10:45 am to 11:15 am

Books, rhymes, music, movement, and more for toddlers, 16 months through age 2 and their caregivers. (Note: This event will be taking place at a location outside the San Francisco network of public libraries. For questions concerning the event, please contact the hosting library: Ocean View.)

Baby Rhyme Time & Playtime  Every Thursday11 am to 12 pm

Rollicking rhymes, songs, and books for infants to 15 months and their caregivers.

Family Storytime & Playtime  Every Saturday11 am to 12 pm

Books, songs, rhymes, and fun for children of all ages unless noted.

Ocean View LEGO/Magnatiles Club – Every Saturday12 pm to 1 pm

Get creative building with LEGO. We provide all the pieces you’ll need to create vehicles, robots, castles, and more.
